More Than A Secure Shell, The Implementation Of A Linux Firewall, Linux SIG Slideshows - The Making Of

More Than A Secure Shell

Jan Vanhercke - C-Cure

Secure Shell has become a defacto standard for secure communications between systems. However there is more to it than meets the eye. Secure shell can be used to initiate software distribution, doing remote backups, establish VPN's and many other interesting features in 'total' security. This talk will not only cover installation, but also some of the nifty aspects of secure shell, going from the total insecure configuration of it (yes it is possible) to some of the more practical features. As an introduction to the talk a small overview of public/private key cryptography will be given.

The Implementation Of A Linux Firewall

Gratien D'haese - IT3 Consultants

Finding the proper (open source) tools to implement a Linux firewall from scratch is not a easy task. This is my quest on what I did (or how I did it) to build a Linux firewall from scratch that suites my purposes. Security is an ingoing business, and therefore, never complete, but somewhere I have to draw a line of what I find a reasonable security level where I can live with. I will discuss all the tools (applications) I investigated to build my firewall system.

Linux SIG slideshows - The Making Of

Robert Sprockeels - Bits Over Atoms

Our first experiment in making a Linux SIG Workshop available as a multimedia show (sound and synchronized slides) was conclusive. We're going to repeat this experiment and probably extend it somewhere in the future to video for some presentations.
This little talk will explain how we did it and what's needed to create and publish such multimedia materials.
